Caring for Sight... A Story Of Vision

At L'OCCITANE, we create "sensorial" products that delight the senses, but there's one sense that's particularly important for us: SIGHT. From putting Braille on our packaging to selling fund-raising products and working with NGOs and UNICEF, we're dedicated to helping the blind and visually impaired, preventing avoidable blindness, and making eye care available to more people around the world.

L'Occitane NZ X The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ

Between 2019 and 2020, L’OCCITANE NZ contributed towards two sight-saving Outreaches in Fiji. An eye care team from the Pacific Eye Institute (an initiative of The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ) conducted the Outreaches using a mobile eye clinic.

The Team visited Rakiraki and Wainibokasi where they offered a full range of eye care services, including free eye checks, cataract surgeries and treatment for a variety of other eye conditions. They performed eye screenings on 3,000 people, gave out 1,080 prescription glasses and conducted 145 eye surgeries.

The partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ allowed L’OCCITANE to help communities with limited access to eye care, and to restore sight and independence to people living with blindness or vision impairment.

LET’S DREAM OF A FUTURE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SEE

IF WE DO NOTHING, the number of visually impaired and blind people will have tripled by 2050.

OUR MISSION AS A BRAND

WE HAVE REACHED OUR 2020 GOAL:
PROVIDING 10 MILLION BENEFICIARIES WITH ACCESS TO EYE CRAE. BY 2025, WE AIM TO INCREASE THIS TO 15 MILLION!
Two ways to do this:
1. Raise funds together
2. Make a difference together.

SUBSIDIARIES WITH A VISION…

AND AMBITION!

Our Malaysian subsidiary got customers involved in the Race for Vision and invited them to post photos of their feet – with the words "Fight Avoidable Blindness" – on Instagram, along with the official Race for Vision hashtags. For each photo posted, L'OCCITANE Malaysia made a donation. An idea worth developing!

FIGHTING BLINDNESS IN BURKINA FASO

SHARING A MISSION WITH NGOs

In addition to supporting women in Burkina Faso, we're working with NGOs such as Light for the World and Sight Savers to eliminate blinding diseases and conditions in specific regions.

SOLIDARITY SOAP

A "HELPFUL" PURCHASE!

Much of the funding for our sight-saving work comes from the sale of our Solidarity Soap, which is launched every year with a new design. The money raised goes to support UNICEF's Vitamin A supplementation programmes, to prevent childhood blindness.

BRAILLE

MAKING OUR PRODUCTS MORE ACCESSIBLE TO VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE

We began writing our product names in Braille (in English, the most widely understood language) in the 1990s, and have continued ever since! It's not only a way of making our products more accessible to visually impaired people; it's also a way of raising public awareness about sight loss.

GETTING EMPLOYEES INVOLVED

PAYROLL GIVING AND RACING FOR VISION!

Our subsidiaries around the world get involved in local, sight-related projects and initiatives. Every year, L'OCCITANE employees can take part in the "Race for Vision" – a connected race that raises funds to fight visual impairment. In France, we also have a "payroll giving" scheme, enabling employees to make regular donations to sight-saving charities.

Vitamin A deficiency is one of the leading causes of childhood blindness.
