L'Occitane Australia have been partnering with The Fred Hollows Foundation since 2021 to help restore sight in Australia and close the gap in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health.

Our Partnership
L’Occitane en Provence supports The Fred Hollows Foundation, in partnership with Alice Springs Hospital, in a project to establish the Alice Springs Eye Health Hub and improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and cultural safety of eye-health services in Central Australia. By addressing barriers at both systemic and service delivery levels, the project aims to close the gap in eye health outcomes.
Original estimate of beneficiaries over the 3 year period was 990, the project has now delivered care to more than 9,000 beneficiaries. For the third year of the project (2023–2025), we have helped provide high-quality eye care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Central Australia. This growth reflects a strong, collaborative approach to delivering culturally appropriate care, particularly in remote areas where access to professional health services is limited.
A key part of this success is the role of Aboriginal Liaison Officers (ALOs), who help support culturally safe and accessible eye health services. ALOs service communities across Central Australia—which is home to 16 main Indigenous Australian language groups and more than 20 dialects—ALOs support patients by navigating the health system, interpreting clinical processes, and building trust between healthcare providers and local communities.
This project demonstrates how focused, culturally aware interventions can have a significant impact, helping thousands of people regain their sight and improving the overall eye health of communities that have historically faced disadvantage.
