HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE OILY SKIN

Oily skin is relatively easy to identify. The main characteristic of oily skin is the excessive production of sebum. This means that your skin tends to look shiny and oily appearance to the surface of your face. You can perform the tissue paper test to make sure, placing it over your entire face for a few moments. If the paper shows traces of oil where your forehead, nose, chin and cheeks are you have oily skin.

Other characteristics of combination skin include bigger pores, an irregular skin texture and blackheads. Excess sebum can clog pores which can unfortunately bring the appearance of blemishes and pimples. But, we can help remedy this.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?

It is quite natural to see a shine on your face, in fact, this actually allows your skin to protect itself against external aggressions and dryness. It is important to keep in mind that the excessive production of sebum is often hereditary and that its causes are internal factors such as hormones and their possible dysregulation .

During adolescence, the skin will also tend to be more oily due to the increase in hormone levels. Also, an epidermis that feels attacked, particularly from using products that are too abrasive or stripping, will be likely to produce more sebum to defend itself. So be sure to use gentle products.

  • Good hydration: Drink enough water, 6 to 9 glasses per day (1.5L), to hydrate your body well from the inside .
  • A healthy and balanced diet , sugar and excess fat should be avoided. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, foods rich in vitamin B6 such as green vegetables, potatoes, bananas and eggs.
  • Eat foods rich in omega-3s such as salmon, tuna, nuts, eggs. Their benefits are no longer to be proven!
  • The vitamin A (carrot juice, sweet potato, spinach), the vitamin C (orange, guava, blackcurrant, parsley) or the vitamin E (sunflower seeds, hazelnut oil, sardine) are also recommended to have a nice skin.

Skincare Tips to Keep in Mind

EFFECTIVE CLEANSING EFFECTIVE CLEANSING

EFFECTIVE CLEANSING

Never “strip” your face with excessively irritating products in the hope that it will produce less shine. It is the opposite effect which will tend to occur, it will redouble sebum to defend itself and protect itself. So always use gentle products on your skin.

Wash your face morning and evening. Gently double cleansing is recommended to ensure all traces of dirt are removed. This is especially important if you are wearing makeup: to remove all makeup.

IMPORTANCE OF MOISTURISING

Not moisturising your skin for fear of it being more oily is not advised. Like all other skin types, oily skin needs its daily hydration in order to glow and avoid that "dull complexion" appearance. Skipping moisturiser can actually cause the oil glands to produce extra oils and in turn make your complexion more oily. In this case it's best to opt for a water-based moisturiser that will not clog your pores.

Oily Skincare Routine

1. CLEANSING

Double cleansing first with an oil-based cleanser like our Cleansing Oil-To-Milk, then again with a water based cleanser like our Aqua Reotier Gel Cleanser is perfect to remove any trace of dirt and makeup - while still being gentle on your skin and not stripping.
